Texas Hold'em Gambling

There are two basic forms of gambling in texas hold'em. There is the basic limit table that has a set betting amount, limiting you to that amount during pre-flop and after the flop. During these stages there are only three raises permitted after the initial bet. This means that in a $2 limit table, the betting cannot go above $8 during pre-flop or after the flop. The value of the bet at a limit table doubles after the turn and the river. Again at a $2 table, each bet after the turn would be in increments of $4.

Texas Hold'em - Chip StackThis version of play has several drawbacks as well as several advantages. On the one side if you have a low pair after the flop then you can try to stay in until the river and hope to score either a three of a kind or a two pair hand. You know, prior to going in, that it will not cost too much to take a hand to the river. Of course conversely it is very difficult to bluff somebody out of a hand. Even if they are sure you are not bluffing they might still pay to see your hand and be positive that they lost. At limit tables it is usually wise to avoid any serious bluffing and just go with the hands that have the odds to win. If you have a bit of patience and choose your hands wisely you will end up winning something at limit tables.
The other version of texas hold'em is no limit. This version is both exhilarating and dangerous because it means that there is no set limit that a player can bet at any given time. In other words, a player can decide to raise $500 pre-flop at a table where the ante is only $2. This version of texas hold'em requires a great deal of composure and the ability to read the other players.

It would be incredibly unwise to begin your playing days at a no limit table. Those tables are usually reserved for players that are more experienced with the game. Any beginner who sits down at a no limit table is pretty much donating his money to those around him.

When playing texas hold'em online it is a bit more difficult playing no limit because you cannot read a player's face while sitting across from them. For this reason it is just as important to pay attention to how players react to certain scenarios. Sometimes you can read a player just by the bet he puts on the table or even how long he pauses, if at all, before he places a bet. I played once with a guy online who would always bet without pausing when he was bluffing. He could not understand how I would call him with a pair of twos and the game at stake! Sometimes a player will broadcast his bluff in the way he gambles. It is very important to pick up on any subtleties in a player's gambling habits if you wish to win big in a texas hold'em no limit table.
